Andrew Carrie

At 12 years old, I ventured into my mom’s room and grabbed ahold of her glorious Nikon D7000. Sneaking around the guards (my parents at the kitchen table), I broke out into freedom (our backyard). After fumbling with the on switch and shutter button, I eked out my first couple of photos. Without even looking at the resulting images, I was hooked.

That camera followed me through middle school, high school, and eventually college, where I knew I wanted to study something creative. I started in architecture before finding industrial design. Now, a decade after discovering that hidden treasure (the Nikon D7000), I’m taking my first passion full-time.

By noticing lighting, color, architecture, movement, and design more acutely, photography has allowed me to see everything in a different way. It affects how I travel, where I go, and the activities I do. It was one of the reasons I decided to study industrial design in college, which gave me another perspective on the things I was already drawn to.

And it has made me more curious. This curiosity carries into my interests and hobbies, projects and travel, thinking and life.

Andrew Carrie Creative is where a decade behind the camera meets four years of design education. Studying design has changed the way I photograph spaces. I think about proportion, material, light, and the decisions behind a building, not simply how to make it look good.

I care deeply about creating photographs that communicate the thought and quality behind a space. Today, Andrew Carrie Creative is a one-man band, but as the business moves toward architecture and hospitality, the team will grow.

Hobbies have been integrated into my life for as long as I can remember. They tend to cycle a good bit, but here’s what I’ve been doing lately.
