The Dark Side — zebra portrait, black and white

The Dark Side

The light fights for life, but the shadow swallows all.

The Dark Side is my take on the look of harsh, studio-lit animal portraiture in the field. Taken under the late-morning sun of Botswana, every bit of light and shadow was already present in the scene. My job was to extract what was there.

What resulted feels almost removed from the environment in which it was taken. Less a portrait of an animal on safari and more a study of shape, texture, and light.

Detail of a photograph mounted beneath acrylic glass, showing the material's polished edge and thickness

A gallery-ready presentation designed to give the photograph added depth, clarity, and presence. The photographic print is mounted beneath 0.08-inch acrylic glass, creating a clean, frameless surface while preserving fine detail and tonal depth.

The polished acrylic face gives the image a more dimensional quality and a substantial finished presence on the wall.
